I changed my mind
“You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It's their mistake, not my failing.”
― Richard P. Feynman, physicist
Procrastination is a tricky little mistress. Sometimes she pops up because the task at hand is truly boring, or hard, or I just don’t wanna. Usually, though, I really enjoy my work. I rarely give myself tasks I truly don’t want to do - until I found myself spending weeks trying to prepare for this “New year, New Habit" session and just…kept finding reasons not to.
After 3 weeks of delays, it finally clicked: I didn’t want to do this. I just thought I should.
In my learning sessions I often say, “Take what works, drop what doesn’t.” It was time to take my own advice. I reflected on what I actually wanted - I would want to get the info, do it on my own time, and be done with it.
So, I changed the format. I made short video people can watch anytime, paired with a simple one-page habit guide. No hour-long workshop. No pressure. Watch it, use it, or don’t. Anyone who wants to can pair it with a free 30-minute coaching session to help keep the momentum - no strings.
How is my little fumble relevant for you?
Where are you doing something just because you think you should?
Businesses talk about agile all the time, failing fast and pivoting. You have the option to do that in life and your career as well. Test things out. Keep what works. Drop what doesn’t. Then move the f*** forward. There’s no reason to do things just because someone else said you should.
As Oscar Wilde says, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
🎊 New Year, New Habit 🎊
Revised
The 2nd Friday of January is often called “Quitters Day”, as this is when nearly half of people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions. We start so ambitious - and then real life shows up.
If your resolution is starting to wobble, or you simply want a more sustainable approach, here’s a different way.
Instead of relying on motivation, turn your New Year’s Resolution into a practical habit you can actually stick to.
You’ll get:
A simple one-page habit guide
The option to watch a 3.5 minute video to guide you
An invitation to check in with yourself in 2-4 weeks - and if you’d like, book a free 30 minute coaching session to work through obstacles and help keep the momentum going
Take what works. Drop what doesn’t. No perfection required.
